Falltastic Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

The onslaught of pumpkin has arrived. I started seeing all the pumpkin products at Trader Joe’s in September. I thought I would not be ready with the weather still warm for all the fall comfort foods, but I was wrong. The minute I saw the pumpkin things I got the fall fever. After consuming a bag of pumpkin tortilla chips dipped in cinnamon dusted hummus, I was ready to start to jump on the bandwagon and give you guys some pumpkin treats. Plus, now the nature has started to follow suit: cooling off and getting dark earlier.

Inspired by this spiced smoothie that I like from a cafe down the street. BUT… here we have pumpkin. I know you’re surprised. My go-to fall cafe smoothie uses nog spice, which is a combo of cinnamon and nutmeg. However, pumpkin pie spice packs even more flavor with a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, and cardamon.

Banana adds the creamy, pumpkin pie texture. Almond milk as the base, but also that little bit of nuttiness. Oat rolled dates, small date pieces coated in oat flour, are the perfect size for smoothies. Since they are smaller, they are easier to blend. And, there’s no pits or anything to worry about when your in a hurry in the morning. Unsweetened pumpkin puree is a must. Then, we have some pumpkin pie spice. Warming flavors, including cinnamon and ginger. This makes for the ultimate fall breakfast smoothie. Plus, it’s healthy, vegan, and gluten-free. Let the pumpkin months begin!

One of my favorite fall treats is Trader Joe’s frozen pumpkin croissants. Take out the night before to prove. Wake up in the morning, and have warm, fresh-baked pastry in the comfort of home. Don’t get me wrong the chocolate and almond ones are pretty good too. Once I saw pumpkin in stores, I had to check out to see if they had the croissants. No luck yet! Yield: 1 smoothie


  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 Tbsp oat rolled dates


  1. Add all ingredients into your blender. Blend until smooth.
